TVs vs Projectors
High end 85” TVs are affordable and 100” models are available. Projectors are the only option beyond 100”. A well done set-up optimizes projector style + brightness and screen type + size VS ambient light + budget.
The Silver Screen
White is not the optimal surface for a projected image. Screen quality is easily overlooked but it has a huge impact on image quality. It can be smart to spend less on a projector to make room in the budget for a better screen.
Audio
A big part of the theater experience is audio. Surround sound started with 5 speakers around the room and 1 subwoofer - so called 5.1 - and speakers increased to 7.1 and 9.2 and so on. That’s been replaced by Dolby Atmos which adds reflecting speakers to place audio in 3D space. The Sonos ARC delivers a great Dolby Atmos experience while higher-end Atmos is available using a traditional amplifier.
